Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you might have some questions. Please reference this page for our most commonly asked questions!

How does Sparrow-B-Gone work?

House sparrows (Passer domesticus) are a common backyard pest. They are a non-native, invasive, aggressive, and territorial species. House sparrows frequently chase away more desirable birds and take over their nesting sites.

Sparrow-B-Gone is a patent-pending product line that is designed to keep almost all house sparrows away from your bird feeders. The product design is based on research published in 1991* that showed at least 90% of house sparrows will avoid a feeder protected by clear fishing lines.

How is Sparrow-B-Gone made?

Sparrow-B-Gone is a premium product that is designed to work with bird feeders of almost any size or shape. It is manufactured in Canada and the US and is made from a special UV-resistant plastic that holds up in extreme hot and cold weather. All metal parts are stainless steel. The hanging clear cords are made from a heavy-duty monofilament line that is completely bird safe and will not tangle around birds on windy days. (Small birds will often cling to the cords while waiting for their turn at the feeder.)

How hard is it to assemble the product?

Sparrow-B-Gone! comes fully assembled and takes only a few minutes to adjust and attach to your feeder.

What colors does Sparrow-B-Gone come in?

Sparrow-B-Gone! is available in black or green.

I have a tube feeder with a built-in cage surrounding and Sparrow-B-Gone isn’t working well. Why isn’t it working and what can I do to make it work better?

What we have discovered is that when you add hanging cords around a tube feeder surrounded by a wire cage, house sparrows are already somewhat comfortable with wires surrounding the main feeder.  If the cage is shiny, this is even more of a problem, but we sometimes see this with black wire cages as well.  We recommend first trying to make the diameter of the Sparrow-B-Gone product as  large as possible.  If the Sparrow-B-Gone hanging cords are close to the cage, they are less noticeable and are less effective than normal.  Bottom line is that if it doesn’t work for you, you can always return the product for a full refund including free return shipping (US only).

I want to remove Sparrow-B-Gone! from my bird feeder, how do I remove the adhesive?

We use top quality adhesives at Sparrow-B-Gone! to ensure that the products withstands any potential damage issues, such as weather. So, to remove these adhesives we recommend using Goo Gone, which you can purchase easily in multiple hardware stores or on Amazon. You can also search the Internet for “homemade goo gone” to learn about simple to make alternatives that are also very effective at removing the remaining residue.
